THEOS - New Spring Semester

February 8, 2010

Here are the courses for the spring semester:

Matthew
Matthew is based on an expository (verse by verse) study on the first book of the New Testament.  This amazing book is about Christ as the promised Messiah.  Most specifically, Matthew unveils the theme of the entire biblical narrative, the redemptive plan.  We meet for 13 weeks unpacking Matthew.  The course book is your Bible.  This course is located in room B2 of the ministry center.

Eschatology
Eschatology is designed for the growing disciple of Christ and those interested in apocalyptic literature.  The course will be an overview of the end times.  We meet for 12 weeks building on end times theology.  The course book is Progressive Dispensationalism, which costs $25.  This course is located in room B6 of the ministry center.

r12: True Spirituality
This course is for those who are interested in a critical and spiritual critique of how and why we do certain things in our relationships.  This curriculum is a 6-week DVD format with Chip Ingram. We meet for 12 weeks better understanding how we can make our relationships healthier and God-centered.  The course book for this course is the r12 Study Guide, which costs $10.  This course is located in room B5 of the ministry center.

Additionally, here are some frequently asked questions about THEOS:
What is THEOS?
THEOS is our large group adult discipleship environment, which meets for in-depth Bible study.  THEOS is for adults of all ages, stages of life, and spiritual maturity.

What is the purpose of THEOS?
The purpose of THEOS is to enhance the spiritual life of the believer through educating them in a specific subject matter.  The word “theos” is Greek for God.  We desire that THEOS will be a place that is God-centered and Gospel-centered.

What makes a THEOS different than an adult bible fellowship or small groups?
There is more teaching involved then having conversation facilitated.  Our Life Groups enhance more the conversational style format, whereas THEOS focuses on in-depth Bible study.  Since each course is concentrated to one subject matter, it allows for a deeper understanding of that subject matter.  For example, when it comes to a course on Genesis, teachers will exegete passages.

What will the curriculum look like?
THEOS will use a curriculum that is based on one of four tracts and developed by the pastoral staff and elders.  The four tracts include: General (Bible book, topical); Stewardship (finances, spiritual gifts); Relationships (parenting, marriage); and Bible (doctrine, theology).

All curricula will be for 12 weeks or in a semester format.  Each student receives a syllabus and has an option to purchase the course book.  Each optional course book is between $10-30.  To purchase a book, place check or cash in an envelope and designate it for THEOS course book (please include your registered course).  For example: John Smith registered for Genesis and places his check in an envelope marked Genesis course book.

How do I register for a THEOS course?
At the information center in the foyer, we have sign-up sheets.  Please sign-up for a course that interests you at this time in your relationship with God.  You will be contacted the week prior to the start of the fall trimester via e-mail or phone.

Can I go between courses?
We desire for each person to commit to being in his or her course for the entire trimester.  Courses will be offered on a rotational basis.
